The Feeling of Malaysia

A collection that brings the diversity of Malaysia together, one fragment at a time.

Created for a modern Malaysian restaurant in the Netherlands, The Feeling of Malaysia was created to introduce guests to a country that is often overlooked, yet has so much to offer.

Malaysia is a meeting point of cultures, flavours, landscapes and influences. Malay, Malaysian Chinese and Malaysian Indian cultures live alongside one another, while cities, islands, nature, traditions and modern life each reveal a different side of the country. This diversity is reflected in its food, but extends far beyond the table.

For the entrance, the collection brings this diversity together in 120 individual fragments. Fruit, food, drinks, animals, places, buildings and words come together in one large, colourful composition. Each fragment offers a glimpse into a different part of Malaysia, while the collection as a whole reveals just how many sides the country has.

The artwork is designed as a first encounter with Malaysia. Rather than explaining the country, it invites guests to look closer. To wonder what they are seeing, discover where each fragment comes from and become curious about the world behind it.

That feeling continues throughout the restaurant, where different aspects of Malaysian culture, cuisine and landscapes are explored further.

The aim is to leave guests with more than a meal. A sense of wonder at the diversity of Malaysia, and the curiosity to discover more.
